DENVER, CO — Colorado lawmakers passed a law prohibiting arrests based solely on colorimetric field drug test results, shifting the state’s approach to preliminary drug screening amid concerns over accuracy and civil liberties, officials said.
Under the new legislation, officers in the state may no longer make arrests based only on the results of portable colorimetric tests — kits that produce a color change when reacting to certain substances — recognizing that these tools can yield false positives for legal materials.
