COMANCHE COUNTY, Okla. — A U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service officer died Aug. 29 while working to evacuate residents from an area threatened by the Railroad South Fire, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page.
Officer David Taylor served with the Department of the Interior’s Fish and Wildlife Service, Division of Refuge Law Enforcement. His last known contact came while he was assisting a family as they evacuated their home; his body was later found inside a structure.
Taylor was a U.S. Navy veteran who had served as a wildlife officer at the Rio Mora National Wildlife Refuge and the Las Vegas National Wildlife Refuge. He is survived by his wife, son and parents.
