GEORGIA — Police in Georgia employed a precision immobilization technique (PIT) to bring a high-speed vehicle pursuit to an end, law enforcement officials said, with in-car and body-worn camera video capturing the stop.
The incident unfolded when officers attempted to stop a suspect vehicle for traffic violations; the driver failed to yield and speeds escalated as the pursuit progressed on state highways, according to police reports.
Officers coordinated a PIT maneuver that safely forced the fleeing vehicle to stop, at which point deputies approached and took the driver into custody without reported serious injury to officers, the suspect or bystanders.
Video released by the agency shows the sequence of the pursuit and the PIT application, consistent with department policy for ending dangerous high-speed chases.
Law enforcement leaders said the pursuit is being reviewed to ensure compliance with pursuit and use-of-force policies, and the case will be forwarded to prosecutors for charging decisions.
