Enid police received helped from two bystanders while trying to restrain and apprehend a suspected vandal who tried to grab an officer’s weapon during the struggle.

Enid Police Department arrested one man Tuesday afternoon after he was accused of causing damages to businesses along Independence downtown.
Dustin Satterley, 49, who gave officers Heartland Lodge, 3209 S. Van Buren as his address, was booked on complaints of assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest and vandalism, according to EPD.
The string of incidents started around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Callahan’s Pub & Grille, 220 N. Independence.
According to reports, Satterley became unruly at Callahan’s, overturning chairs. Workers there called the police, but Satterley left and continued walking south along Independence before attacking a sign at Boho Teepee clothing and decor store, 114 N. Independence.
“I heard someone yelling in front of my store who knocked over my sign twice before heading south,” Tani Mahaffey said. “Then I saw him throw a pot at the window of (Enid) Axe and shatter the glass. I called 911, but a couple of men had him down on the sidewalk before they arrived.”
Lafe Coldwater, owner of Enid Axe, 120 N. Independence, said he was in the back of the business when he heard employees screaming in the front.
“I saw the bum picking up anything he could get his hands on, throwing them at my windows, so I tackled him,” Coldwater said.
A supplier who brings products to his business helped keep Satterley down until police arrived. Coldwater said Satterley resisted arrest, and officers struggled with him before they got him handcuffed.
Coldwater said the girls working up front for him were in high school and college and were scared.
“I’m concerned about my business, my employees and my patrons. We need to figure out how to take care of this,” Coldwater said.
An EPD report written by Officer Jonathan De La Torre states he arrived at Enid Axe and “saw two males, one wearing a black (shirt) and the other wearing a red shirt, holding down a male in front of the store.”
As De La Torre attempted to restrain the man, identified as Satterley, “he resisted by moving towards me, and with the arm that was free tried to reach for my firearm as he was trying to get up from the ground. I stopped Dustin from grabbing my firearm, putting him back on the ground, and getting a hold of both arms. The two males that had him restrained saw him reach for my weapon and helped me control him,” according to the EPD report.
After Satterley was taken to Garfield County Detention Facility, “he kept telling me and the Correctional Officer that he kept hearing people in his head who were critiquing everything we were saying.”
