DENVER, CO — A recruit with the Denver Sheriff’s Department died after suffering a medical emergency during a physical training session at the department’s academy, officials said.
Dorbor Mulbah, who began training with the department in January and was expected to graduate in May, “expressed discomfort and became unwell” following physical training on April 28, Sheriff Elias A. Diggins said in a statement. He was transported to a local hospital, where he died the next morning.
Staff members at the training academy provided initial medical attention before Denver Fire Department and Denver paramedics arrived and continued care, according to the sheriff’s office.
The department’s Administrative Investigative Unit has opened an inquiry into the incident “as a matter of protocol,” and additional details, including the cause of death, have not been released.
Officials said wellness and mental health resources are available to recruits and academy staff.
