HOUSTON — Houston police officers chasing a man who fled on foot Aug. 7 briefly used an Uber driver’s vehicle to continue the pursuit, according to dashcam video obtained by Click2Houston.
Officers responded to a call that the man had threatened to shoot a woman and her two children. When officers arrived to detain him, he ran from the scene on foot.
Dashcam video from inside Uber driver Anthony Baines’ vehicle shows two officers running up to the car before climbing inside. “Hey, give me a ride over there please,” one officer can be heard saying, followed by, “Go, go that way … go, go, go, go, go.”
Baines drove the officers a short distance before they exited and resumed searching for the man on foot. “I’m glad I was able to help, and I’m glad that they are recognizing it,” Baines told Click2Houston. “This is by far a unique situation. I never prepared for anything like this.”
Officers were unable to locate and capture the suspect.
