WASHINGTON — U.S. Capitol Police arrested a Southern California man Tuesday after finding a guillotine in the bed of his pickup truck, which was illegally parked near the U.S. Supreme Court building, authorities said.
Capitol Police said Philan-Tam-Duy Le, 35, was arrested on suspicion of carrying a dangerous weapon after officers discovered the guillotine in his truck along the 100 block of East Capitol Street, an area near the U.S. Capitol, the Supreme Court and the Library of Congress.
Le is a resident of Julian, a small town in San Diego County, and had driven across the country to Washington, according to authorities. Capitol Police said his motivations remain unclear and that investigators “are going through the suspect’s background to learn more about why he came to Washington, D.C.”
No additional details on the circumstances of the arrest or any further charges have been released.
