BALDWIN PARK, CA — The Baldwin Park Police Department on Monday released body-worn camera footage and associated audio from a May 31, 2025, officer-involved shooting that left Officer Samuel Riveros and a 43-year-old man dead, authorities said.

The video captures the moment responding officers arrive in the 4200 block of Filhurst Avenue after receiving reports of gunfire. According to released footage and 911 audio, the suspect opened fire on officers immediately upon their arrival.

Riveros, a nine-year veteran of the Baldwin Park Police Department, can be seen in bodycam footage warning bystanders to get out of harm’s way before he was struck by gunfire while advancing along a sidewalk, police said. A second officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the exchange.

The initial victim, identified later as a 43-year-old man, was found fatally shot on the sidewalk before officers arrived and also died from his injuries.

The suspect, Eduardo Roberto Medina-Berumen, 22, was taken into custody after a prolonged encounter in which officers exchanged gunfire with him and forced him off his property, prosecutors said. He has been charged with multiple counts, including murder, attempted murder of a peace officer and unlawful possession of a firearm, and a judge has determined there is sufficient evidence for the matter to proceed to trial.
