SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — A Scottsdale police sergeant shot and wounded an armed woman inside the lobby of the McKellips Police Station on April 30, 2026, after she pointed a handgun at a station aide, a civilian, and responding officers, according to the Scottsdale Police Department.
At approximately 9:45 a.m., Eva Garcia entered the station lobby and removed a handgun from a backpack, then directed the weapon at a police aide seated behind protective glass at the station’s information window. The aide retreated to a safe area and radioed for assistance. Garcia then moved to a second window and pointed the firearm at a civilian seated nearby.
Officers who were performing administrative duties at the station responded to the scene and ordered Garcia to drop her weapon. When Garcia pointed the gun at the officers, a sergeant fired and struck her. Officers immediately moved to secure Garcia’s firearm, confirmed the civilian was unharmed, and began administering first aid until medical personnel arrived.
The police aide and the civilian sustained no injuries. No officers were harmed in the incident.
Garcia was transported to a hospital, where she received treatment for 12 days. Following her discharge, she was taken into custody and faces several felony charges. The department subsequently released body camera and security camera footage documenting the sequence of events inside the lobby.
Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to Garcia entering the station with a firearm. The officer-involved shooting remains under active investigation.
