Body camera footage captured a Dallas police officer saving a 1-year-old boy who stopped breathing at a fast food restaurant earlier this month.

The incident happened just after 11 p.m. Jan. 10 as Senior Cpl. Sergio Perez was taking a break from training with his K-9, Goro, KTVT-TV reports. The officer was using a McDonald’s drive-thru lane to get some chicken nuggets for his four-legged partner when a woman who was screaming and carrying a young child came up to his vehicle.

“(S)he was yelling and screaming that she needed to get her child to the hospital because he was not breathing,” Perez told KTVT.

The officer quickly began performing CPR on the child, giving the small boy chest compressions. In less than a minute, the boy, who had suffered a seizure, was breathing again.

“My training kicked in, I stayed calm, just kept talking to the child and reassuring mom that everything was gonna be okay,” Perez said.

The boy was rushed to the hospital, and authorities say he’s recovering. As a parent, Perez said the situation had an impact on him, and he has called the rescue divine intervention.

“I believe that God put me here that night for that reason because I normally don’t give Goro nuggets,” he said. “But that night I said since we were doing real good on training I said you know what, my partner deserves some nuggets tonight.”

“All in a day’s work, on my birthday by the way,” he added.
