MEMPHIS, Tennessee — The city of Memphis is mourning the loss of one of its own. Officer Geoffrey Redd died on Feb. 18 at Regional One Hospital, 16 days after he was shot and wounded in the line of duty.
Redd was responding to a call at the Poplar-White Station Library on Feb. 2 when he was struck by gunfire. He was immediately rushed to Regional One Hospital where he received medical care, but was in extremely critical condition, according to a news release.
Redd was served with the Memphis Police Department for 15 years, having joined the department in February 2008. He worked at the Old Allen, Union, Raines, Mt Moriah, Ridgeway, and Appling Farms stations during his tenure. Prior to his service with the police department, Redd proudly served his country as a United States Marine.
In addition to his service to his country and the city of Memphis, Redd was a devoted husband, a loving father, and the Director of Security at his church. His colleagues remember him as a kind and compassionate person who always put others first.
“Rest easy, Officer Redd. You will be missed,” the department wrote in a statement.
