NEW YORK — A woman who fatally stabbed one person and critically wounded another near Times Square was shot and killed by NYPD officers Monday after she refused to drop two knives during a standoff, according to law enforcement sources and witnesses.

The attacks began around 4:25 p.m. at West 41st Street and Seventh Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, according to sources. The suspect stabbed a second victim a block north at West 42nd Street before continuing toward West 43rd Street, where officers confronted her.

Video recorded by a bystander shows officers surrounding the woman outside a police station, repeatedly shouting for her to drop the knives. Construction worker Jorge Disla, 57, who recorded the encounter, said officers tried to speak with her before she approached them swinging a knife in each hand. Officers first attempted to use a Taser, sources said, before at least one officer opened fire as she advanced toward them.

Both stabbing victims, a man and a woman, and the suspect were taken to Bellevue Hospital. The wounded woman and the suspect died there, according to sources, while the male victim remained in critical condition.

Witness Linda Ruiz, 58, said she came upon the scene before police arrived and saw a man “bleeding profusely from his right leg” calling for help, along with a woman lying unresponsive nearby as officers attempted to resuscitate her.

The names of the victims and the suspect have not been released. The NYPD has not issued a detailed public statement on the incident, and the investigation remains ongoing.
