The lawsuit stems from the March 20, 2024, incident outside Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, where authorities said a group of armed suspects opened fire while assisting inmate Skylar Meade in escaping from custody during a medical transport. Two Idaho Department of Correction officers were shot during the attack, and a responding Boise police officer was also injured.
According to court filings, the plaintiff alleges deficiencies in interagency coordination, communication and security planning before and during the inmate transport response. The suit claims those failures created unsafe conditions that contributed to the officer’s injuries during the ambush.
Investigators previously said Meade escaped the hospital with assistance from accomplices after gunfire erupted outside the facility. Law enforcement agencies later apprehended Meade and another suspect following a multi-agency manhunt in Twin Falls County.
The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages for injuries, medical costs and other losses tied to the shooting. The case remains active in Idaho court, and officials named in the complaint have not publicly detailed their legal response.
