OMAHA, NE — Omaha police shot and killed a woman who officers say slashed a 3-year-old boy with a knife outside a Walmart on April 14, according to a police press release.
Authorities said the incident began inside the store when the woman displayed a large knife and took the child from his guardian, then led the guardian and child to the parking lot prior to police arrival.
Officers responding to 911 calls about a woman armed with a knife confronted her outside the store and issued multiple commands for her to drop the weapon; she allegedly refused and cut the boy before officers fired.
The 3-year-old was reunited with the guardian and taken to a hospital; police said his injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Police identified the woman as 31-year-old Noemi Guzman and said the shooting is under review by the Omaha Police Department with assistance from the Nebraska State Patrol and Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office.
