JACKSONVILLE, FL — Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office deputies used a Taser to subdue and detain a suspect wielding a knife who charged at them during a police encounter, according to body-camera video released by authorities.

Officers responded to a call for service in Jacksonville and encountered an individual armed with a knife; body-worn cameras captured the suspect advancing toward deputies while holding the weapon.

Deputies issued multiple verbal commands for the suspect to drop the knife, but the man continued to approach, prompting officers to deploy a Taser to prevent further escalation, sheriff’s officials said.

The suspect was taken into custody following the Taser deployment and was transported to a medical facility for evaluation, city police reported.

No injuries to law enforcement personnel were reported in the incident.
