April 14, 2023 Huntsville Police Officer Albert Morin, who was critically injured in a shooting that left another officer dead, released his first statement since the violent incident last month.

A Huntsville policeman wounded last month in a shooting that killed a fellow officer said today he is looking forward to “getting back and continuing to protect and serve my community.”
Albert Morin released a statement through Huntsville police this morning, thanking those who sent him get well cards.
“My family and I have enjoyed reading through stacks of cards each day,” Morin said. “I would also like to thank the local businesses and churches that have donated food to my family and fellow officers during the past two weeks. It has helped ease (the) stress and burden during my recovery.”
Morin, 34, was wounded along with Officer Garrett Crumby, 36, and an unidentified woman on March 28 at an apartment complex on the 4600 block of Governors House Drive. Crumby died from his wounds. The woman’s injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Juan Robert Laws, 24, was booked into the Madison County Jail and faces the charge of capital murder of a law enforcement officer. He is expected to face additional charges. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 20 at 1:30 p.m.
Both Crumby and Morin worked out of the department’s West Precinct.
Morin has been a Huntsville police officer since 2017.
