CHANNELVIEW, Texas — The suspect accused of shooting a Harris County Sheriff’s deputy and stealing his patrol car has been taken into custody following a manhunt, according to CBS Austin.
Chase Layne Patin is accused of shooting the deputy overnight Sept. 30 as the deputy responded to a reported family disturbance. The deputy was struck in the lower body and remains hospitalized as of Oct. 1, though he is expected to recover. Patin allegedly then stole the deputy’s patrol car, driving it a short distance before abandoning it.
Investigators believed Patin remained near the scene and canvassed the surrounding neighborhood with Harris County Sheriff’s deputies, U.S. Marshals and Harris County Precinct 3 Constables. Acting on tips about barking dogs, authorities located Patin hiding inside a backyard shed, where he surrendered without incident.
A homicide sergeant told CBS Austin that charges have been filed against Patin, though the specific charges have not yet been released.
