MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TEXAS — A Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputy died after being struck by a commercial vehicle on June 28 while assisting at a traffic crash investigation.
Deputy Erika Serrato, 24, was positioned near two parked patrol vehicles with emergency lights activated, directing traffic away from the crash scene when she was struck by the commercial vehicle.
Serrato was transported to a hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the striking. She died from her injuries while hospitalized.
A second deputy present at the scene was struck by debris during the incident and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Serrato had served with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office for six years prior to her death.
Sheriff Wesley Doolittle released a statement regarding the loss. “Our hearts are broken today. Deputy Serrato made the ultimate sacrifice while serving and protecting our community. We ask that you keep her family, friends, and fellow deputies in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time. We grieve alongside them.”
