VINITA PARK, Mo. — A Florissant police detective suffered minor injuries Monday when a suspect dragged him with his car while fleeing an attempted arrest at a gas station in the 8400 block of Page Avenue, according to police.
The incident, which occurred around 3:30 p.m., began when Florissant detectives attempted to arrest the man on felony warrants; authorities did not elaborate on the underlying charges. As the man put his car in reverse, he dragged one of the detectives who was standing near the vehicle. Police did not say how far the detective was dragged. Florissant police said on social media that the officer was struck by the vehicle, while St. Louis County police described him as having been dragged.
As the suspect drove away, a second Florissant detective fired one round through the rear window of the vehicle, authorities said. It was not immediately clear whether the suspect was hit. Police said he drove east on Page Avenue before abandoning the vehicle about a mile away. He was captured early Tuesday in St. Charles County; officials did not say whether he had been shot.
Florissant Police Chief Tim Fagan asked the St. Louis County Police Department to investigate the case. St. Louis County police spokeswoman Mary Schmitt said the dragged detective is 47 years old with 23 years of police service; he was treated at a hospital and released Monday night. The detective who fired his weapon is 41 with 18 years of police work.
