A Tennessee sheriff’s deputy was shot and wounded while chasing a suspect in a domestic disturbance Tuesday.

The shooting happened at around 10 p.m. when Wilson County deputies were called in by colleagues in Smith County concerning a car chase, The Tennessean reports. The suspect was fleeing from a domestic disturbance and was armed.

Wilson County deputies caught up with the high-speed pursuit in Lebanon as the driver drove recklessly without his headlights on. Finally, the driver stopped and began shooting at deputies while fleeing on foot.

A deputy was shot in the lower right leg and was taken to the hospital with injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening. The deputy is expected to recover.

Deputies continued to pursue the suspect, who climbed on top of a garage and fired shots in the air. Eventually, the man surrendered to police, and he was taken into custody.
