DALLAS, TX — The Dallas Police Department and Dallas Fire-Rescue have established a new emergency drone program designed to enhance aerial support for public safety missions, officials said.
The program will deploy unmanned aerial systems equipped with high-resolution cameras and thermal imaging capabilities to assist with tasks such as locating missing persons, assessing hazardous scenes and improving command-level situational awareness during critical incidents.
Officials said the joint initiative is anticipated to improve response times and officer safety by providing real-time aerial data that can inform tactical decisions and reduce risks to personnel on the ground.
Both departments are developing training and operational protocols for drone pilots, including guidelines for integration with current 911 dispatch operations and compliance with Federal Aviation Administration rules.
The emergency drone program is expected to be phased in over the coming months as personnel complete certifications and units are fielded for active response missions.
