HARRIS COUNTY, TX — A Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputy has died after being struck by a vehicle while conducting a traffic stop Saturday night, authorities said.

The deputy was assisting with a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 59 south of Houston when he was hit by a passing vehicle shortly after 10 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office. He was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
The deputy succumbed to his injuries several days later, the department confirmed. His name has been released by officials pending family notification.
The driver of the vehicle that struck the deputy was taken into custody at the scene, and law enforcement agencies are working to determine charges as part of the ongoing investigation.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office continues to coordinate with partner agencies as investigators review evidence and video related to the incident, officials said.
