BELLEVUE, Wash. — A 38-year-old man accused of luring Bellevue police to the city’s downtown transit center with a bogus 911 call was charged with assault after allegedly stabbing one officer and being shot by another, according to charging papers filed by King County prosecutors. The suspect, Mohamed “Jude” Bangura, was booked on first- and second-degree assault, and prosecutors asked for $5 million bail, citing an apparent ambush motive. Police1
Court documents say Bangura called 911 shortly before 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 12, reported an escalating domestic dispute and requested “an officer or two,” then refused to provide details. When call takers attempted a callback, the phone went to voicemail. Investigators later tied that number to a complaint Bangura had filed the day before against a different Bellevue officer. Police1
Body-worn camera footage reviewed by detectives shows Officers Sean Winebrenner and Guilherme Spagnolo arriving about eight minutes after the call and speaking calmly with Bangura near the platform at 10850 NE Sixth Street. Without warning, Bangura pulled a 5-inch kitchen knife from his jacket, lunged at Spagnolo—who dodged the blade—then slashed Winebrenner’s face and stabbed him twice in the back/shoulder area, the filings state. Spagnolo fired six rounds, striking Bangura three times. Police1
Winebrenner was transported to Harborview Medical Center and discharged Saturday; Bangura remains hospitalized in serious condition. A knife and the suspect’s passport were recovered at the scene, according to prosecutors. The investigation has been turned over to the King County Independent Force Investigation Team (KC-IFIT) under state protocol. Police1+1
