The Yale University community is grieving the loss of Officer Gregory Swiantek, who passed away on Wednesday after experiencing a medical emergency.

The Yale Police Department announced Swiantek’s passing in a heartfelt Facebook post, expressing the profound sorrow felt by his fellow officers.

“Officer Swiantek was an extraordinary officer, a devoted father to his beloved daughter, a cherished friend, and a dedicated community member,” the department wrote.

Swiantek joined the Yale University Police Department in October 2007 and held several roles throughout his career, including patrol officer, community engagement officer, field training officer, and bicycle officer. He was also a proud member of the department’s Honor Guard and was described as “a true pillar of our community.”

Known for his kindness and unwavering support, Swiantek was always among the first to lend a helping hand. His compassion touched countless lives, and he made it a priority to check in with loved ones on holidays, birthdays, and other significant occasions.

“His absence leaves a void that words cannot fill,” the department stated.

The Yale Police Department has asked the public to keep Swiantek’s 10-year-old daughter, Remy, as well as his extended family, friends, and fellow officers in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

For those wishing to support Swiantek’s family, donations can be made at ourcommunityheros.org.

Details regarding memorial services will be shared once finalized.

“Rest easy, Officer Swiantek, your legacy of love and service will never be forgotten. We’ve got it from here,” the department concluded.
