RICHMOND, Calif. — A woman accused of firing dozens of rounds from a machine gun during a lengthy police standoff has been charged with 19 felonies, including eight counts of attempted murder of a police officer, according to court records.
Jasmine Robinson, 39, is charged in connection with the Sept. 3 shooting of Richmond Police Officer Justin Church, who was among the first officers to respond to a report of a woman in mental distress shooting off fireworks in the 2200 block of Key Boulevard. Police and a mental health crisis team known as A3 responded to the scene; Church was shot shortly after arriving.
Robinson allegedly barricaded herself inside a home near the Richmond-El Cerrito border and fired at officers for several hours, striking multiple homes and patrol vehicles, before surrendering after running out of ammunition. She led police on a brief foot chase before being taken into custody, authorities said. Police identified the weapon used as a Romarm/Cugir Draco-C rifle.
In addition to the attempted murder charges, Robinson faces multiple counts of shooting at police with a machine gun, along with charges of possessing an assault weapon, firing at an occupied home and negligent discharge of a firearm.
The full extent of Church’s injuries has not been made public; the department released a photo of him in a wheelchair outside a local hospital with a bandage on his arm. No one else was struck by gunfire during the incident.
“We are thankful that despite the extraordinary level of gunfire and danger presented during this incident, our officer survived, our A3 partners were unharmed, and no members of our community were injured,” the Richmond Police Department said in a statement, thanking other agencies that assisted with the response.
Robinson is being held in lieu of $950,000 bail at a county jail in Richmond and was scheduled for arraignment Thursday.
