SPRINGFIELD, MASS. — Springfield Police Officer Luis Rojas filed a civil lawsuit July 28 against Jennifer Poulin, alleging that Poulin struck and pinned him against a vehicle during a motor vehicle accident on January 24, 2025, at a Sumner Avenue parking lot.
Officers responded to a 911 report of a vehicle accident involving a gold Lexus registered in Connecticut and another unoccupied parked vehicle. Dispatch information indicated that the Lexus operator was in medical distress.
Upon arrival at the scene, first responders approached Poulin’s vehicle to provide assistance and rescue. According to the lawsuit, Poulin “suddenly placed the vehicle into reverse and backed toward a Springfield Fire Department vehicle,” causing emergency personnel to scramble away from the location.
Poulin then placed the vehicle into drive and collided with multiple parked vehicles in the parking lot. While attempting to flee the scene, Poulin’s vehicle struck Officer Rojas, pinning him between the Lexus and another parked vehicle.
A grand jury indicted Poulin on charges including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, unlawful possession of cocaine and methamphetamine, leaving the scene of personal injury accident, leaving the scene of property damage accident, and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs.
Following her indictment, Poulin failed to appear for a scheduled court proceeding in violation of her probation conditions. As of October 2025, a criminal arrest warrant was issued for Poulin’s apprehension.
Rojas claims in his civil lawsuit that he will continue to suffer severe and permanent injuries as a result of the incident and has incurred more than $2,000 in medical expenses. The officer is requesting a jury trial. Attorney A.J. O’Donald III, representing Rojas, stated that the plaintiff has been unable to work since the incident and that his capacity to return to employment remains uncertain.
