PHILADELPHIA, PA — A man drove his vehicle intentionally into the lobby of the Philadelphia Police Department’s 2nd District station in Northeast Philadelphia Tuesday afternoon, injuring five people, police said.
The crash occurred around 1:40 p.m. at the station on Castor Avenue in the city’s Rhawnhurst section, according to Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel.
Five civilians who were in the lobby waiting for police services were taken to a nearby hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening, Bethel said.
Police said the driver had earlier been involved in a domestic disturbance with his father and later returned in his vehicle to strike the station’s entrance. Authorities characterized the incident as a deliberate act based on video evidence.
The suspect was taken into custody at the scene, and investigators are still working to determine motive and whether additional charges will be filed as part of the investigation.
