WICHITA, KS — A Kansas paramedic will not be disciplined for using ambulance medical equipment to attempt to save a Wichita police K-9 injured in the line of duty, county officials said.

The incident occurred in August 2025 when a police K-9 was struck by a suspect’s vehicle during an arrest, leaving the dog critically injured, according to local news reports.

Responding emergency medical personnel used life-saving tools typically intended for human patients in an effort to stabilize the K-9 before transporting it to a veterinary hospital, authorities said.

After reviewing the response and applicable policies, Sedgwick County officials determined the paramedic’s actions did not violate department protocols and will not result in discipline.

The police K-9 was transported for veterinary care but later died from its injuries, the agency said.
