THOMASVILLE, AL — A Thomasville police officer was killed early Wednesday when his patrol vehicle collided with a commercial truck on U.S. 43, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 4:45 a.m. when the officer’s marked vehicle and an 18-wheeler were both traveling north on the highway within city limits, the Thomasville Police Department reported.

Officer Dallas Hinton, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene, the department said. Hinton had served approximately two years with the Thomasville Police Department and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is leading the investigation into the collision, and responding agencies included Thomasville Fire and the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials said Hinton is survived by his fiancé, two sisters and his father.
