ALEXANDRIA, LA. — A deputy U.S. Marshal was fatally shot July 13 while law enforcement personnel served an arrest warrant on a fugitive suspect in a residential area of Alexandria, Louisiana.
The incident occurred when Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives and U.S. Marshals Service personnel were executing the warrant. The shooting resulted in the death of the deputy marshal during warrant service operations.
Following the fatal shooting, a lengthy standoff ensued between responding personnel and the suspect. After extended negotiations and tactical operations, the suspect was taken into custody. The suspect sustained injuries during the incident and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
The Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office, Alexandria Police Department, Louisiana State Police, and Federal Bureau of Investigation responded to the scene and assumed investigative responsibilities.
