Jan. 6, 2023 Houston police are asking for an unidentified customer at a taquería to reach out to investigators after he fatally shot a masked man attempting to rob the eatery with a plastic gun.

A man who had tried to rob a taqueria was killed late Thursday when a customer opened fire on him in southwest Houston, officials said.
Just before 11:30 p.m., a man walked into a restaurant near the intersection of South Gessner Road and Bellaire Boulevard wearing a mask and gloves, Lt. Ronnie Willkens, of the Houston Police Department, told On Scene reporters.
The man then pointed what investigators later determined was a plastic gun at customers and employees, asking for money, Willkens said. The man then walked toward the front door, when a customer pulled out a gun and shot him multiple times.
First responders pronounced the man dead at the scene.
All the customers in the restaurant, including the man who shot the robber, had left the scene by the time officers arrived, Willkens said. Only employees and the owner remained to talk with investigators. Police are asking anyone who was at the scene to reach out to police.
