A Florida deputy was uninjured in a scary crash—caught on video by body-worn and dashboard cameras—when a vehicle slammed into the rear of his cruiser while he was conducting a traffic stop last month.

The incident happened at about 11:30 p.m. Nov. 26 as Marion County sheriff’s deputies were working a traffic stop in Ocala, the agency stated in a social media post. During the stop, the deputies urged the occupants of the stopped vehicle to move to the road’s shoulder for safety.

While one deputy was standing in the passenger side door jamb of his cruiser and using his in-car computer, a passing vehicle struck the rear driver side of his patrol car. The deputy was thrown to the ground, but was unhurt. He was able to quickly run to the other vehicle’s driver and passenger, who were injured.

“While it is unfortunate that this accident happened at all, it serves as an important reminder of the need for Florida’s ‘Move Over’ Law,” the sheriff’s office stated. “Fortunately, no one lost their life in this case, but far too many emergency workers lose their lives due to the failure of motorists to obey this law.”
