MEMPHIS, TENN. — A man wanted in connection with a February shooting that left a Memphis police officer wounded has been captured after more than two months on the run, authorities said.

Police and U.S. Marshals arrested Danell Maxwell, 40, on May 7 at an apartment in the Cordova area of Memphis. He has been charged with criminal attempt first-degree murder and employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.

Maxwell is being held on a $3 million bond in connection with the incident, which occurred Feb. 26 during a traffic stop when Officer Oscar Torres-Molina was shot in the face, according to the Memphis Police Department.

An alleged accomplice, Tokeytha Owens, 38, was also taken into custody and charged with accessory after the fact.

Torres-Molina was transported to a hospital following the shooting, was released after several days of treatment and continues his recovery, police said.

Authorities said Maxwell was located hiding in an attic crawl space during his arrest, and federal and local law enforcement partners worked for weeks to track him down.
