THOMASTON, CT — Connecticut State Police say dashcam footage captures a wrong-way driver striking a trooper’s cruiser and continuing down Route 8 early March 18 before being taken into custody.
Troopers responding to reports of a vehicle traveling the wrong way northbound on Route 8 near Exit 34 in Watertown attempted to intercept the Jeep Cherokee, according to a state police news release. The driver, identified as 36-year-old Cindy Martins of Oxford, was observed showing signs of impairment.
The state police cruiser’s dashcam video shows Martins’ vehicle collide with the cruiser as officers tried to block her path. After the impact, she continued traveling the wrong way on the divided highway, police said.
Martins was arrested and charged with operating under the influence, driving the wrong way on a divided highway, reckless driving and evading responsibility, state police reported.
Connecticut State Police are investigating the circumstances of the collision and have not reported any serious injuries from the incident.
