MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Police in Maryville, Tennessee, have identified the officer who was critically injured while providing a dignitary protection detail escort for Vice President JD Vance on Friday.
The Maryville Police Department said that shortly after 6 p.m., Officer FTO Justin Brown was critically injured when his police motorcycle was involved in a crash with a Tennessee Highway Patrol SUV in the security motorcade.PREVIOUS: Officers crash during security motorcade for JD Vance in Maryville
According to Maryville Police Chief Tony Crisp, a group of citizens at the scene immediately rendered first aid, which played a critical role in saving Brown’s life.
Brown was taken to UT Medical Center by American Medical Response and underwent surgery on Saturday.

According to Maryville Police Chief Tony Crisp, a group of citizens at the scene immediately rendered first aid, which played a critical role in saving Brown’s life.
Brown was taken to UT Medical Center by American Medical Response and underwent surgery on Saturday.
“We know the prayers of the community continues to cover him,” Crisp said. “His progress is expected to be gradual and he will remain hospitalized for an extended period of time, but we are grateful for the improvement we have seen since Friday.”

Tennessee Highway Patrol’s Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the crash, and additional details of what led to the incident have not been released.
