DALLAS — A South Texas resident was arrested Monday after authorities say the 21-year-old threatened local police and was plotting an attack reminiscent of the deadly 2016 Dallas police ambush, officials said.

Corpus Christi police said they arrested Seth “Andrea” Gregori at about 9:04 a.m. on a warrant obtained with the help of the FBI. Corpus Christi is located on the state’s Gulf Coast.

Gregori remained in jail Monday afternoon on a third-degree felony charge of making a terroristic threat against a public servant, Nueces County First District Attorney Michael Gordon confirmed in a message to The Dallas Morning News.

It was not immediately clear whether Gregori had an attorney.

The FBI’s Houston Field Office said in a post on X that the arrest had prevented a “mass casualty attack.”

According to the X post, Gregori had been planning an assault similar to the one on July 7, 2016, when a sniper opened fire during a protest for Black lives in downtown Dallas, killing five police officers — the deadliest attack on U.S. law enforcement since 9/11.

Corpus Christi police did not answer a list of questions about the arrest, deferring a reporter back to its news release.
