MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. — A 38-year-old woman who escaped police custody by squeezing through a partially open window of a patrol car while handcuffed was taken back into custody Tuesday, authorities said.
Video captured March 28 in Muskegon Heights showed the woman slipping through the back window of a police cruiser and fleeing on foot while officers were examining a vehicle, according to the Muskegon Heights Police Department.
Police located and arrested the suspect Tuesday morning inside an abandoned home on Rotterdam Avenue near Jefferson Street after a search that lasted several days, the department said.
She was initially placed in the patrol car on an outstanding parole violation warrant after officers identified her using a fingerprint scanner, officials said.
Authorities also linked the escapee to a later reported home invasion incident and charged her with felony third-degree home invasion in addition to the parole violation, according to the Muskegon County Prosecutor’s Office.
Investigators noted that escape from custody is a misdemeanor under Michigan law and that the suspect has prior convictions, according to court and corrections records.
