FORT WORTH, TX — Fort Worth police released body camera footage showing a fatal officer-involved shooting in which a man armed with broken glass charged at an officer on a highway overpass, officials said.
The incident occurred March 12 on a Highway 287 overpass after multiple 911 callers reported a man hanging over the edge and injuring himself with a glass object, according to police.
Responding officers attempted to engage the individual and directed him to drop the object and move to safety. Body camera video shows the man, identified by authorities as 38-year-old Jose Lara, advancing toward the officer while holding a broken glass bottle.
After the man continued toward the officer and did not comply with repeated commands, the officer discharged his firearm, striking the suspect. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
The officer, a six-year veteran of the department, was placed on administrative leave in accordance with department policy. The incident remains under investigation.
