WASHINGTON, D.C. — A protester and three U.S. Capitol Police officers were treated for injuries after the man resisted arrest during a Senate committee hearing inside a Capitol office building, authorities said.

Police said the disruption occurred during a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing when a man began shouting and staging an unauthorized protest. Officers moved to remove the individual from the hearing room after the disruption.

According to Capitol Police, the suspect — identified as Brian C. McGinnis of North Carolina — violently resisted officers as they attempted to escort him out, grabbing onto a doorway and struggling with police. During the confrontation, the suspect and three officers sustained injuries and were treated.

Officials said Sen. Tim Sheehy, a Republican from Montana, briefly assisted officers as they attempted to pull the protester away from the doorway and remove him from the room.

McGinnis was taken into custody and faces three counts of assaulting a police officer, as well as additional charges including resisting arrest and unlawful demonstration, according to authorities. The incident remains under investigation.
