FAIRFAX, VA — Fairfax, Virginia, police officers stopped a robbery in progress at a 7-Eleven convenience store early Monday and took a juvenile suspect into custody after the individual allegedly assaulted a store clerk and demanded access to the register and safe, authorities said.
Officers responded to a report of an active robbery at the store at about 5 a.m., where they found the incident still unfolding and intervened to prevent further harm, the Fairfax Police Department said.
The suspect, described as a juvenile, was taken into custody at the scene without further incident and transported to the Fairfax County Juvenile Detention Center, where a robbery petition was obtained, police reported.
The store clerk was seriously injured during the assault and was transported to a hospital for treatment, officials said.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the robbery and have not released additional details about the suspect’s identity.
