TACOMA, WA — The Tacoma City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to promote Patti Jackson from interim police chief to the permanent chief of the Tacoma Police Department.

Jackson has served as interim chief since March 2025 following the resignation of former Chief Avery Moore.
City leaders and council members praised her for providing continuity and steady leadership during the department’s transitional period, noting her efforts to engage with residents and local officials.
Jackson’s appointment will take effect on Feb. 9, and she brings more than three decades of law enforcement experience, including service with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials said her confirmation reflects confidence in her direction for the department amid ongoing efforts to strengthen community trust and departmental stability.
