YUBA CITY, CA — The Yuba City Police Department on Thursday released body-worn camera footage showing officers’ encounter with a naked man armed with a shovel during a public disturbance on March 25, officials said.
Police were dispatched to a reported disturbance in a residential area shortly before officers located the unclothed man wielding a shovel and behaving erratically, according to the department.
Officers attempted to issue verbal commands to the individual, who then advanced toward them with the shovel, prompting a tactical response, body-cam video shows.
During the contact, officers deployed a less-lethal device to subdue the man, who was subsequently taken into custody without any serious injury to officers, the department said.
The suspect was transported for medical assessment and mental-health evaluation, and the Yuba City Police Department continues to review the incident as part of standard procedures.
