(OAKLAND COUNTY, MI —) A Wayne County Sheriff’s deputy was convicted of misconduct in office Tuesday for conducting an unlawful traffic stop of a Novi Police officer outside his jurisdiction, court records show.
Deputy Sahil Massey, 36, of Canton, was found guilty over a Feb. 24, 2025 incident in which he stopped an on-duty Novi officer roughly 15 minutes after the officer had legally stopped and released him. Prosecutors said Massey had no legal authority to initiate the traffic stop.
Massey was driving an unmarked “take-home” vehicle and outside of his jurisdiction at the time of the stop, according to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office. An Oakland County jury returned the verdict following testimony and court evidence.
Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said the case underscores the accountability standards expected of law enforcement officers and applauded the Novi Police Department for pursuing the matter.
Massey is scheduled to be sentenced at 11 a.m. Feb. 25 and faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000 under Michigan law.
