Los Angeles County deputies executed multiple PIT maneuvers to stop a man in a suspected stolen vehicle during a chase that lasted two hours Tuesday.
The chase began at around 9 p.m. when sheriff’s deputies began pursuing a man in a possibly stolen car in Compton, KTTV-TV reports. The pursuit continued through East Los Angeles and then into downtown Los Angeles.
During the chase, which reached speeds of up to 92 mph, the driver crashed through a fence, drove on the wrong side of the road and backed into a cruiser. Deputies tried to stop the vehicle using PIT maneuvers, but the suspect continued driving despite damage to the car.
The fifth PIT maneuver deputies tried finally stopped the suspect, who still tried to drive away. The driver’s futile escape caught a deputy between the suspect’s vehicle and a cruiser. It’s unclear if the deputy was injured.
Deputies took the man into custody, and no details were released about the full extent of the charges he faces.
