WASHINGTON, DC — Authorities have arrested two suspects in connection with an ambush shooting that wounded a United States Park Police officer Monday night in southeast Washington, Metropolitan Police Department officials said.
The officer was in an unmarked vehicle conducting an investigation within Park Police jurisdiction when two armed men approached and opened fire, striking him in the shoulder, according to officials. He was able to drive away and was transported to a hospital, where he was treated and released.
Law enforcement located and arrested 21-year-old Darren Foster of Southeast D.C. shortly after the shooting. A second suspect, 22-year-old Asheile Foster of Southeast D.C., was arrested the following day, police said.
Both men were charged with assault on a federal police officer with a gun, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
Federal officials assisted local police in the investigation, and authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
