WASHINGTON, DC — President Donald Trump announced Thursday that he has removed Pam Bondi from her role as U.S. attorney general, ending her tenure as the nation’s top law enforcement official.

In a post on his social media platform, Trump said Bondi — who had served for about 14 months — will transition to a private-sector position while Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche will serve as acting attorney general.

The White House statement described Bondi as a loyal ally and praised her service, but provided limited specifics on the reasons for her dismissal.

Bondi’s tenure was marked by controversies over the Justice Department’s handling of sensitive document releases and federal priorities, according to officials familiar with the administration’s decision.

Blanche, a former Trump personal attorney who became the department’s second-in-command, will lead the Justice Department on an interim basis as the administration considers potential permanent replacements.
