SAN DIEGO, CA — A San Diego Police officer was fired upon by a suspect during a foot pursuit early Monday following an attempted traffic stop, according to department officials.

The incident began when officers attempted a traffic stop, and the driver fled, leading to a foot chase. Body-worn camera footage released by the department shows the suspect firing at the pursuing officer before law enforcement returned fire.

The suspect was struck and subsequently taken into custody by officers at the scene. He was transported to a local hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening and in stable condition, police said.

San Diego Police confirmed that no officers were injured during the exchange, and the investigation into the shooting remains active.
