A rifle was stolen out of a Massachusetts State Police cruiser during a car break-in overnight. Police are searching for the suspect in the theft.
The Massachusetts State Police cruiser was parked in a garage at a residential complex in Malden when the break-in occurred late Wednesday night, according to Massachusetts State Police spokesperson Dave Procopio.
An investigation revealed someone forced their way into the police cruiser and stole a department-issued patrol rifle that was secured in a mount inside the vehicle, according to officials.
Police said there’s no evidence the rifle has been used since the reported theft.
Authorities are actively investigating the incident.
