The shooting unfolded at a local ice rink shortly before game time when an individual opened fire inside the facility, Warwick police reported. The Good Samaritan — legally carrying a firearm — confronted the shooter, exchanging gunfire and stopping the attacker before more victims were struck.
Police said the Good Samaritan was not affiliated with law enforcement and was inside the rink when the shooting began. The individual’s actions helped end the threat, according to officials.
Two people were pronounced dead at the scene, and several others were transported to hospitals with gunshot wounds or related injuries, Warwick police said. The identities of the victims and the suspect have not been publicly released as the investigation remains active.
Detectives continue to investigate the motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting and urge anyone with information to contact law enforcement.
