A firefighter and police officer helped get a Lancaster County man to safety when his apartment building caught fire Tuesday evening, police said.
Ephrata police said the first arriving officer and a firefighter helped a man rescue his male roommate after their first-floor apartment filled with smoke around 7:22 p.m. on the 300 block of West Main Street.
The rescued man was taken to Lancaster General Hospital for treatment, police said.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the room of origin. The home sustained about $10,000 in damages, police said.
Ephrata police and the Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal are investigating the cause of the fire.
